Advanced applications of green hydrogels in drug delivery systems
Hydrogels are the versatile three-dimensional (3D), crosslinked polymeric networks that have demonstrated numerous vital functions in several scientific domains.
Various inherent, structural features of hydrogels have fascinated the formulation scientists working on drug delivery and potential hi-tech applications. Thus the main purpose of this chapter is to present an overview of the hydrogels with special emphasis on their classification, structural composition, drug-release kinetics as well as drug delivery applications.
Additionally, this chapter reviews the present clinical feasibility and market value of hydrogels with a concise outlook on the future scenario of hydrogels.
